welcome to the spice yard

Nina aged 5

Hello my name is Nina and I have a real passion for making and eating good tasting food.

In 2017 I left behind a 20 yr. career in corporate retail. In that time, I had worked constantly since graduating with no career breaks or sabbaticals.  The last 9 years were spent working a minimum of 10 hr days, with a minimum of 3 hours of commuting on top of that!  Looking back, I’m not sure how I did it and for so long.

At the end of 2017 I took 6 months out, to re-evaluate, rest and re-energise. On one hand, I did very little and on another hand, I began completing all those jobs, you simply never get round to doing. It also involved some travelling to North India, which was fantastic.  The food was amazing, full of flavour and colour and different textures.

It was, a good a time, as any to realise my dreams, I may never have had the opportunity like this ever again, so I finally decided to go for it.

An idea that stemmed from within me was, to teach the people to use spices in everyday cooking. My trip to India and ignited my passion for new and exciting flavours.

I realised, that the food my partner and I cooked, varied from tradition vegetarian Gujarati to modern ‘sous vide’ style meals, but something that was unique to us , was our use of spices in each and everything we did with them. We used everyday food and recipes and pimped them up with spice! Afterall we both came from a wonderful heritage that spanned across two continents, full of culture, colour, tastes, flavours and aromas. It would be difficult not to reflect this fusion in our food.

Whenever we shared food with friends and family, they would compliment it, but also wanted to know how to recreate it!

So here I am, having set up a small and very young business selling spice blends and their uses!

My motto is if you are going to feed people food, let it be flavoursome food you are proud of, life’s too short not to!
